It’s Timor-Leste week here. The second round of voting at the presidential election there was held on Monday.
On the basis of provisional figures from a usually reliable though partisan website, this is the result:
General Taur Matan Ruak (independent/CNRT), 61.23%
Francisco “Lu Olo” Guterres (FRETILIN), 38.77%
The major challenge for the new president, who is also known as Jose Maria de Vasconcelos, is to win a supportive majority in the July legislative elections.
